Cold therapy, also known as cryotherapy, relaxes injured tissues, produces vasoconstriction, which lowers blood circulation, and numbs the nerves, which reduces inflammation, discomfort, and muscular spasm. Cold treatment, also known as cryotherapy, is commonly used to alleviate acute pain produced by injuries such as runner's knee and recently strained muscles.
