Seven Tips for Online Learning During COVID-19

    By Lila Kerr

    Published Sep 24

It's not hard to see that the COVID-19 virus pandemic has made it necessary for us all to make drastic changes in our daily lives. Businesses are moving to remote work. K-12 schools must embrace distance learning. Many college students who were previously enrolled on-campus now have unanticipated online learning. A California dairy with 7,000 cows are using their herd's manure to create clean energy and power up to 17,000 cars. Bar 20 Dairy and BMW partnered up to provide renewable electricity for their fuel cells of their electric vehicles.
"We expect to produce more power than we use on the whole dairy. If we can produce enough energy to minimize our electrical costs and clean the air, that's kind of a good thing."
This is a first-of-its-kind climate-smart digester that captures the methane gas from the manure and converts it into electricity without combustion at double the efficiency rate compared to conventional methods.

It's been estimated that it takes a cow between one and two lactations to fully pay back its rearing cost. From there, each animal's economic return becomes much clearer, and this makes having older cows in the herd a goal for many dairies.

Dairy farms are routine. Milk cows 365-days a year. This is the life that Kelly and Christy Cunningham with Milk Unlimited near Atlantic, Iowa, have grown accustomed to. Although in 2017, that nearly came to a halt.

FAQ - How many degrees of ambient air cooling can I expect from a Core Cool System?

    By Core Cool Systems

    Published Sep 1

Watch the YouTube video - https://youtu. be/7Q3DKfHJyzwDepending on many factors, you can expect 5 to 10 degrees of ambient air cooling. However, we consider the ambient air cooling a pleasant side effect for the people that work in the barn. Our focus is on the COW and maintaining her core body temperature. Why? Because she is more important, keeping her cool and providing her with consistency is more important than cooling the ambient air...

My favourite quote from one of the best articles on heat stress I have read this year. Cooling cows is about more than just airspeed or any one single element. David Carlson mentions four components here, and I would like to add one more, humidity because it can significantly impact the level of heat stress.

Cooling cows in the summer heat can use gigaliters of water, but it doesn't have to! Find out how you can cool cows using a fraction of the water bunk line soakers use while still achieving the same amount of cooling. It's not magic. It's science.

Did you experience a drop in production or reproduction this summer? Have you ever checked the air speed in your barn? You can buy a reliable and accurate wind speed meter for around $30.

Airspeed is one of the critical components needed for effective cow cooling.

Many companies will sell you fans and systems that say they produce a certain airspeed, BUT what are they really achieving?

You can check your airspeed very quickly with this handheld gadget.

I have been on many farm visits where people say, "feel that airspeed? It's good, isn't it?" But we are standing in a feed alley or a scrape alley where the airspeed isn't really doing the cattle any good.

My hot tip is to turn your fans on to 100% and GET IN THE STALLS. Take the wind speed meter and head out into the barn. Kneel, sit or crouch in the stall where your cow would be laying and take the airspeed there. Try a few different locations, and get in between standing cows or behind an obstruction. Take the airspeed in multiple locations and get an idea of airspeeds in your barn and what impacts it. These airspeed measurements will give you an idea of your current system's performance and what airspeed it offers your cows.

If you want cows lying in the stall, cool and comfortable, chewing their cuds, ruminating and making milk, minimum airspeeds of 5 mph in every stall will help you get them there.

P.S. Evaporative cooling applied directly over the beds set according to the temperature and humidity in the barn will help too, but that's a chat for another day. Visit www.corecoolsystems.com to learn more.

In today's FAQ video, we answer the question, "How can I have water over my beds and not have wet bedding?" Probably the most asked question because wet beds mean major issues with SCC and mastitis. It's a great question and has been a big driving force behind hours of research and development into making the Core Cool System what it is today.

Heat stress can start impacting cows at 15 C/59 F, according to this article by Lactanet. Herd health, production and reproduction are affected at lower temperatures and humidity than we ever knew.

Financing a Brewery and Beer Manufacturing Plant

    By HAVELET FINANCE

    Published Jul 16

Beer is the world’s oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drink; it is the third most popular drink overall, after water and tea. The production of beer is called brewing, which involves the fermentation of sugars, mainly derived from cereal grain starches — most commonly from malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely used. When it’s time to grow your brewing business, deciding on a general contractor and project management team is an early and critical decision. You have space considerations, sub-contractors to think about, and above all you’re wondering how much it will cost and where you can save money. We have the expert answers to those questions and thousands more that will arise...

International Dairy Foods Association - Staffing remains a struggle. The U.S. unemployment rate dipped to 3.6% in May, near a 50-year low reached in early 2020. And the gap between available workers and available jobs is large -- only 5.94 million unemployed for 11.40 million job openings.

As a result, employers are still scrambling to attract and retain workers. Trucking and warehousing companies, in particular, continue to try to fill positions and keep operating at full capacity. And contacts in the dairy sector continue to report problems in keeping processing plants fully staffed.

Air speed and cooling. Let's break down the confusion.

    By Core Cool Systems

    Published Jul 13

Here is a typical statement about air speed and cooling. Ideally, the air over the cow while lying down should be able to reach a wind speed of 2m/sec or more to keep cows cool and provide them with fresh air. Research shows a 1. 1 THI reduction per 0. 44 m/s wind speed...
