Gwyneth Paltrow scores court win that means more than $1

    By Kak Keane

    Published Mar 31

Nah, Gwyneth Paltrow 's motivation to go to trial to fight a lawsuit accusing her of sending a fellow skier absolutely flying at a posh Utah ski resort in 2016 was about vindication. She got it when a jury found her not at fault in the collision, granting her exactly the $1 she sought in her countersuit. As a court reporter read the verdict, the courtroom gallery made up mostly of her supporters exhaled while Paltrow sat next to her lawyer intently and avoided displaying emotion that could be interpreted as surprise or gloating. Gwyneth Paltrow speaks with retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, left, as she walks out of the courtroom following the reading of the verdict in their lawsuit trial on Thursday in Park City, Utah. She might have come out ahead in the court of public opinion, too, Hollywood lawyers and publicists say...

Actress Melissa Joan Hart describes helping children flee campus after Nashville school shooting

    By Kak Keane

    Published Mar 29

Actress Melissa Joan Hart says she was near Nashville’s Covenant School soon after Monday’s deadly shooting of six people, including three children, and helped some students get away from the scene. “My kids go to school right next to a school where there was a shooting today,” Hart said in an Instagram video posted Tuesday. Hart said she waited a day to release the video because it was “too raw to post” on the day of the shooting. “We helped a class of kindergartners across a busy highway that were climbing out of the woods, that were trying to escape the shooter situation at their school,” said Hart. “We helped all these tiny little … kids cross the road and get their teachers over there, and we helped a mom reunite with her children...

Another great post from Tara Vander Drussen,
"Cow burps can be seen from space for the first time, and dairy cows may just be the answer to combat climate change!

The dairy industry is playing an important role in helping to reverse the climate crisis and address the sustainable nutrition challenge, but how is the Dairy Industry doing it?

-Feed additives such as Yucca & Flaxseed
    -Selective breeding
-Another feed additive, under safety review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, could reduce methane emissions by 30 percent

Advances such as these don't happen overnight, so while current research results are encouraging, continued commitments to enteric mitigation research within agriculture are critical."

The Dairy Podcast Show - Successful heifers, successful cows: how to deal with udder edema - Cora Okkema
"Having successful lactating cows in the future depends on having successful heifers in the present. However, it is not that simple, as we need to be prepared for any challenges and disorders that heifers may face. With that in mind, how do we deal with udder edema? To answer the question, in this episode, Cora Okkema and I discuss what udder edema is, its prevalence, and how we can evaluate its causes.
As a bonus, she also gives us some tips on maintaining mental health and engaging dairy consumers."

Being married to a Vermonter, the Ben & Jerry's phenomenon wasn't brought to my attention til my adult years.

As an ag communications specialist with a dairy background, I feel torn as to how I feel about their recipe for success. Obviously, what they are doing works - they have a clear brand, very inventive flavors and commitment to *real* ice cream (i.e. not "frozen dairy dessert.")

That said, their equal commitment to their political ideologies and promotion of personal values seems to have been a double-edged sword and left them wide open to mixed reactions.

I think of people getting annoyed with their virtue signaling, and the irony when they sold out to Unilever.

But, the brand remains strong as ever and they continue to pump out new flavor after new flavor so something is working, but is it working well enough?

    Would love everyone's thoughts!

The time before and just after calving is the most stressful time in a cow's life. Because of the stress the cow is under, this period is when she is the most susceptible to disease and metabolic disorders.

A cow's first line of defence against mastitis-causing pathogens is its teats. Even with an excellent milking routine and clean, dry bedding, having healthy teats can be the difference between infection occurring or not.

The pregnancy rate is the number of cows that could get pregnant that do in a 21-day window ( 1 heat cycle). This uses both animals bred and not bred and has a measure of time. This is very good. Every 3 weeks over 1/3 of the cows not pregnant will become pregnant. The US average is between 22 and 25.

Why does Core Cool Systems focus on maintaining core body temperature? Because cows love consistency, and when they experience it, they reward us with incredible results. Variable speed set to temperature and humidity in the barn means airspeed is seamlessly adjusted as temperatures fluctuate, keeping cows consistently comfortable and cool.
Are you looking to upgrade your ventilation and cooling system? Call 1-844-GET-KUHL to visit with an expert today and see if Core Cool Systems is a good fit for your operation that will bring value to your herd and your bottom line.
