2021 Oregon Seed Crops Report - Cover Crops, Forages, Turf

    By Risa DeMasi

    Published Jun 14

As reported by Jerry Hall, GO SeedThe 2021 crop is going to be very interesting as inventory stocks on many turf, forage, and cover crop seed species are at all time lows. There will certainly be a lot of jockeying for position at the cleaning facilities by a lot of companies for a lot of different species. The Oregon seed industry will be working diligently to try to get as much seed out as quickly as possible but there will be issues. Production fields looked rough going into the winter and many fields didn’t look a whole lot better coming out of it. The damage last summer/fall from voles was real and devastating, in some areas, leaving fields lacking in plant population...

"While America Slept, China Stole The Farm".. a lot of truth in this article. Of even deeper concern is the depth into other industries, for a deep dive check out "China's New Silk Road" on Amazon.

According to tripwire.com, the average ransomware payout in 2020 shot up to $312,493. and the highest paid was $30,000,000. So, for a number of reasons it makes sense that hackers would go after food supply chains 1) unprotected technology 2) food is essential to life... scary stuff.

Its not so much that the ag startup is getting snapped up, but the technology that they have... "what is happening to their crops - leaf by leaf and on a multi-field, multi-crop basis" - astonishing.

Recent advances in the study of plant cryopreservation mechanism

    By Isla Miller

    Published Apr 28

Cryopreservation is a technique to preserve cells, tissues, and organs in liquid nitrogen (− 196 °C) and is widely used in the long-term preservation of animal, plant, and microbial germplasm resources. Ultra-low temperature preservation of plants is usually combined with in vitro culture technology, which can achieve long-term safe preservation of pollen, injured tissues, somatic embryos, zygotic embryos, seeds, meristems and dormant buds. The ultra-low temperature preservation technology of important crops and ornamental plants is relatively mature, and the main wild species and varieties of potatoes and bananas worldwide have been stored at ultra-low temperature. Germplasm banks are the most effective and economical means of ex situ conservation of wild plants. Most of the seeds of wild plants can be stored at low temperature (− 20 °C) for a long time after dehydration, and their lifespan has been greatly extended...

In these days in time, life is harder for some than others....Keep holding strong family and friends: A little laughter to lighten the load:

    4. Old ranch owner John farmed a small ranch in Montana. The Montana Wage and Hour Department claimed he was not paying proper wages to his workers and sent an agent out to interview him.
"I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent.
"Well," replied old John, "There's my ranch hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $600 a week plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a week plus free room and board. Then there's the half-wit who works about 18 hours every day and does about 90 percent of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night."
"That's the guy I want to talk to, the half-wit," says the agent.
"That would be me," replied old rancher John.

Slow Moving Vehicles: Here's Your Sign

    By Mary Herring

    Updated Mar 10

Every spring and fall, farmers fill roads with tractors, combines, and other farm equipment. Some farm equipment can take up the whole road. That’s why both farmers and other drivers need to pay extra attention this time of year. It’s legal to drive farm machinery on public roads and it’s often the only way farmers can get from field to field. The combination of slow moving farm equipment and faster cars, however, can be deadly as the time before the two vehicles meet takes only seconds...

Farm Equipment Appraisals: More Than Color and Age

    By Mary Herring

    Published Feb 9

The skill of an independent appraiser is to formulate an unbiased value based upon a thorough understanding of the farm equipment market, while using real data from multiple data sources — “guesstimating” it is not. There’s more to farm equipment appraising than meets the eye. We talked to several experienced appraisers to get their take on the current market for used agricultural equipment in this unusual environment. Brian McGahey of Ringling, Oklahoma, has been an independent appraiser for the past 18 years and said he uses several data sets when figuring farm equipment valuations. Guide to Choosing Business Equipment Loans

    By Future Loans

    Published Nov 2, 2020

What is a business equipment loan?A business equipment loan, or equipment financing, provides businesses with the funding they need to upgrade or repair the equipment they use for daily business functions. Qualifying equipment includes appliances, vehicles and electronics, such as computers. An equipment loan agreement usually cannot be used for payroll, real estate, debt servicing or other expenses. Following loan approval and funds remittance to you bank accounts, you begin making payments on the loan, which includes the total cost of the equipment plus interest over a fixed period. Once you have repaid the term loan in full, you own the equipment...

How do Iron and Amino Acids Correlate in Plants?

    By Ryan Reynolds

    Published Oct 16, 2020

Opulent Blends has possibly the best iron uptake for iron fertilizer, which is Green Optimizer and here's how. A major limiting factor on crop yields is imbalanced nutrient availability, especially iron. There are many essential elements that plants use, and it is important for each of those elements to be balanced. An element that is short in supply will determine the effectiveness of all the elements as a whole and in result lead to unbalanced nutrients within the plant negatively affecting the overall health and growth of the plant. In fact, a shortage of just one element within the plant can hinder an entire crop...

  • 2021 Oregon Seed Crops Report - Cover Crops, Forages, Turf
