We don't often think about trees getting heat stressed, but they do feel the heat.

Using nanocrystals as peach bud ‘baby blankets’

    By Denise Attaway

    Updated Mar 28

The Palmetto State is home to some of the best peaches in the southeastern United States. But pleasing the palate is not the only role peaches play in South Carolina. The peach industry also is a major contributor to the state’s economy. To help keep the industry growing, the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service Peach Team is researching how to keep pests at bay, as well as how using new technologies can help protect peaches. During the annual Ridge Peach Producers Meeting in Edgefield, South Carolina, Peach Team members briefed growers on how to attack these pests...

The food industry in Vietnam is considered a key industry in the development of the country's general socio-economic development, specifically:

-- Social: promoting rural industrialization, contributing to creating jobs for people.

-- In terms of economy: Supplying many key export products such as seafood, rice, coffee, rubber, etc. to bring in large foreign currency earnings.

In addition, the food industry also promotes the development of industries that produce consumer goods, along with other industries such as cattle breeding, industrial crop cultivation and aquaculture in order to provide food processing technology, food.

Avocado is characterized by a very low fruit set in relation to the initial number of flowers produced, with the aim of reducing energy expenditure and increasing the percentage of male and female flowering overlap. There are two flowering patterns: type "A": the female flowers open in the morning and in the afternoon the male pollinating organs. Type "B" open as feminine in the afternoon and as masculine the next morning. However, there is a brief overlap between female flowers closing and male opening and this is when most of the fruit set occurs if there is the activity of pollinating insects. The duration of this overlap varies according to environmental conditions (greater with high relative humidity and T above 20 C).

FOLCROP B-Mo complemented with FOLCROP SET + during flowering provides the necessary boron in this stage, and molybdenum, basic for a correct germination of the pollen grain. The plant will have that great energetic support that it needs to form the flower sexual organs so that they can set perfectly.

Hawaii for centuries has been the last stronghold in the Coffee Belt to grow coffee without the added hardships caused by Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR). However, as of November 2020 the first cases of CLR were detected on Maui and the Big Island of Hawai i. With very little solutions to this coffee disease, our North American Area Manager Nicholas Machado presented CAFEDAK to the Hawaiian coffee growers of Kona, Ka u, and Hilo which will help them control the spread of this already economically important disease. #Cafedak organically activates the coffee plant s natural defense mechanisms, improves plant nutrition, and promotes better production and crop quality. Cafedak can be used as an additional tool in the fight against Hawaiian CLR ensuring that growers can keep their trees productive while also reducing the crop s pesticide load.

Cafedak has once again demonstrated its high efficiency. This time in Capitan Cook (Hawaii) in an organic coffee production crop. In the trial, 3 foliar applications of #Cafedak @ 2 pt./ac were made at the time of fruit development. Cafedak, with its complete formulation, demonstrated its ability to reduce the severity of coffee rust infection established in the crop, reducing defoliation caused by the infection and consequently reducing production losses.
The farmer is really satisfied, with a minimum investment he has obtained excellent results.

EN // Once again we have demonstrated the effectiveness of the FORCROP solutions. Last week we had the pleasure of receiving a visit from our client from Florida (USA) Mario Raul Ramos (General Manager of FR AGRICULTURAL GROUP). Present at the visit were Nick Machado (Area Manager USA), Juan Jos R os (Area Manager Spain) and Luis Carmelo Clemente (Product Manager). They visited several horticultural and citrus farms in Murcia (SE Spain) to show him how these crops (similar to those in FL) are managed in Spain and how to apply FORCROP solutions to improve quality and yields.

"Sunburn is a major issue in apple production, resulting up to 40% yield loss (Schrader et al., 2006). ... For several years, the fruit surface temperature (FST) has been used as a reliable indicator of the sunburn susceptibility (Rackso and Schrader, 2012). Several contact type instruments, e.g., thermocouples, thermal probes, etc. have been used to measure FST. However, these methods can be inaccurate, data-limited, destructive, and laborious (Wang et al., 2020). Therefore, our research group has developed and validated a field-deployable, crop physiology sensing system (CPSS) prototype for accurate and real-time apple FST estimation."

"Irrigation sensors are important tools for fine tuning your irrigation. Kicking the dirt or doing a 'the grass looks green irrigation check' is not always enough. Old pear orchards have deep roots and what is happening in the top two inches can be quite different from what is happening below two feet. Irrigation sensors help you make more informed irrigation decisions based on soil moisture conditions in the root zone."

"The objective of this project is to clarify recommendations for tree removal when trees are infected with Little Cherry/ X-disease. It is thought that glyphosate herbicide application to infected trees using either a cut stump or frill (drill) application can both kill roots of the infected tree and may help identify adjoining root grafted trees by showing leaf herbicide injury. Managers would like clarification on effective application rates, application timing and methods as well as whether herbicide application is efficacious."

"When apple replant disease occurs, it can cost orchardists $70,000 to $150,000 in reduced returns during just the first four years of production. . . . But fumigation generally only provides short term benefits. Growers asked for alternatives that may provide longer term benefits and higher returns allowing them to maintain their organic status."

"Chemical insecticides have never been a fully effective option for many reasons including large, dense tree canopies, resistance, and the importance of conserving natural enemies for biological control. Currently, many growers are spending around $1500 per acre to manage psylla alone and are still not gaining acceptable control. "
