Project Financing For Oil and Gas Companies/Industries

    By Future Loans

    Published Nov 4, 2020

Project Financing For Oil and Gas Companies/IndustriesMuch debate has been ongoing in recent years in the oil and gas industry, especially after the major environmental disasters that the oil and gas industry has played a part in. The oil and gas companies are facing many difficult situations, predominately with sustainability pressures and cost and investment concerns, which are forcing more scrutiny towards the oil and gas industry, as well as dealing with the many transitions that are vital to staying successful in this complicated industry. The oil and gas industry is considered one of the biggest industries in the world today (in terms of dollar value), which means the oil and gas industry typically contributes a significant amount towards the national Gross Domestic Product. The oil and gas industry is often considered a global powerhouse, reinforcing the vital role they have, and continue to play, in the world today. The oil and gas industry also is the leading industry in employment, employing over 173 thousand people, as of November 2016, in the United States alone – if we consider this number globally, it is upwards of a couple million people...

1031 Exchanges and Farm Land: 5 Things that Landowners Need to Know

    By Tyler Davis

    Published Aug 2, 2019

A 1031 Exchange is a tax-deferred swap program in which farmers and others in the agriculture industry can participate. Farmland, vacant land, and certain agriculture assets are considered real estate assets under the Internal Revenue Code. As much, farmers and others are able to utilize Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 1031 in order to defer tax upon the disposition of farmland and acquisition of a “like-kind” piece of property. Section 1031 exchanges, which originally began in the 1920’s, have seen numerous tweaks and changes over the years to get us to the rules that are in place today... In order for the taxpayer to defer taxes, they must identify the new property within forty-five days of the disposition closing date and close on the new “like-kind” property within 180 days of the disposition closing date...

A New Era of Farm Employees: Farm Technicians vs. Farm Hands?

    By Gregory Heilers

    Published Jun 4, 2018

Traditional agricultural skills that made civilization possible are still alive and in use today. At the same time, hundreds of farm technician job listings across the US, and the rise of precision agriculture and software, clearly evidence the need for technologically-savvy farm technicians in the 21st century agricultural industry... Satellite technology provides a broader view of agricultureTo assess the current state of affairs across the globe, I solicited the expert advice from one of the preeminent farmers in the United States, Joel Salatin, co-owner of Polyface Farm, and John Fargher, co-founder and COO of Australia-based cutting-edge farm management software, AgriWebb. Ecological Farming: the Science Behind Farming Isn’t ChangingIn Joel’s mind, while an individual farmer’s understanding of agriculture may change, the science behind soil health and fertility hasn’t and won’t... ”Compost is the same, but practices have changed on some farmsJoel’s advice for someone looking to educate themselves on ecological farming ranged from reading The Stockman Grass Farmer and ACRES USA to “spending time walking and thinking on your farm...

Root Exudates 101: What They Do and Why They Matter

    By Laura Barrera

    Published Mar 23, 2020

When you picture what’s happening below ground in your fields, you probably imagine a web of roots branching out to provide your crops support, nutrients and water... Roots are also secreting chemical compounds, known as root exudates, which play an important role in both crop production and soil health. Released primarily from the root hairs and cells immediately behind the penetrating root tip, says an Agronomy for Sustainable Development article, root exudates attract and sustain a variety of microorganisms, like arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen-cycling bacteria, in the rhizosphere, which is the zone of soil directly surrounding the roots. When explaining exudates, Paul Hallett uses a quote from the English agriculturist Jethro Tull’s book, Horse-Hoeing Husbandry: “Roots are but guts inverted…that spew out what is superfluous... ”In addition to benefiting the plant itself, root exudates can both affect the soil and be affected by it...

Corn Fungicides 101: Tips for Protecting Your Crop and Your Bottom Line from Foliar Disease

    By Laura Barrera

    Published Jul 7, 2020

and Canada... Deciding whether to use corn fungicides for foliar disease depends on several factors that can vary year to year, including the disease present and its severity, hybrid resistance, weather and field conditions... The worst offender between 2016 and 2018 was gray leaf spot, which Kiersten Wise says is the foliar disease that annually and nationally has the greatest chance of causing economic impact... “Gray leaf spot would probably be the most consistently, annually present, yield-limiting disease,” says the CPN director and University of Kentucky plant pathologist... , and the fungus that causes the disease can survive in residue from year to year...

    Early planting: risks and benefits

    By Miriam Pitzalis

    Updated Aug 20, 2020

Over the years, with the advent of climate change, the growing need to maximize production yields and the introduction of new stress-tolerant hybrids, early planting of corn has become an increasingly widespread agricultural practice. In reality, what are the benefits and risks of early planting, which lead producers to adopt this cultivation technique?Early planting benefitsOne of the main reasons why early planting is favored is the possibility of obtaining earlier flowering, which improves the photosynthetic efficiency during the period with greater availability of solar irradiance. A second benefit is to limit exposure to heat and water stress on the crop in the most sensitive phenological phases: the maximum evapotranspiration occurs at the beginning of summer when the soil water reserve is greater and can compensate for the evapotranspiration demand... 4 °F and 82... 4 °F and 89...

cover cropping with triticale ,hairy vetch and cow peas late fall?

    By Brady Shortell

    Published Oct 18, 2020

Looking at planting triticale with hairy vetch and cow peas for a cover crop next year for a cash crop or corn to be planted late May 2021 using a roller crimper to terminate the cover crop before plant. It’s October 18th, I won’t be able to plant until the 22nd. Night time temps have fluctuated from mid 30s to high 20s no consistency yet. Some nights stay closer to 40. Highs are in the 70s and 80s. Am I too late for any of my covers? Any suggestions on planting rates? Will triticale terminate properly if I follow the method used for Rye, waiting until the entire field is dropping pollen?
