    India aims to Scale up Food Processing Sector by Tenfold in Next Five Years

    A quantum jump in the size and growth of food processing sector is needed which would be in sync with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of doubling farmer’s income and creating a New India by 2022, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said. For this, the aim should be to propel the sector by more than ten times in the next five years. He was addressing the Conference on Innovative Financing at the World Food India (WFI) being organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as National Event Partner in New Delhi.

    Technological Innovations drive the Indian Food Industry, Minister of Food Processing Industries

    Speaking at the interactive session on “Nourishing the Food System” at the India Economic Summit 2017 organized by the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on 5 October in New Delhi, Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Minister of Food Processing Industries, stressed on the importance of technological innovations in the food industry. “Technological innovations play a very important role in addressing key issues like ensuring that there is less wastage, better hygienic food availability, addressing farmers’ distress and creating more jobs,” she said.

    The Minister outlined the Government’s recent technological initiatives like eNAM, or electronic agricultural market, and special Soil Health card schemes for farmers. She noted that Industry needs to partner with farmers in bringing latest technology to improve farm productivity.

    Impacting Indian Farmers’ lives through Science Biotech-Kisan & Cattle Genomics

    As a part of the Government’s focus on the development of programmes that aim to directly and positively impact people’s lives rapidly, the Ministry of Science and Technology has been at the forefront in many of these initiatives. Two Farmer-Centric initiatives of this Ministry are Biotech-KISAN and Cattle Genomics.
    The Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan shared details on these new initiatives with the Press in New Delhi today. The two programs are intended to have major impact on rural livelihood through science. The Minister in his address stated that the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the importance to work on the problems faced by our farmers is a great motivation factor for the scientist community.

    Huge potential for India-France collaboration in Food processing, Food technology and Retail: Indian Minister for Food Processing Industries

    Mrs Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hon’ble Minister of Food Processing, Government of India is on an official visit to SIAL Food Show 2016 in France. During the course of her visit, the Hon’ble Minister has met key industry players in France to discuss investment and collaboration opportunities between India and France in food processing, food technology and retail industries. The Minister for Food Processing Industries, Mrs Badal interacted with top food companies in France, sharing with them the huge business potential in India’s food processing sector and encouraging the French companies to explore India as an investment destination.

    The Hon’ble Minister had one to one meetings with senior leadership of French companies, that include: Savencia Fromage & Dairy, the leading cheese company in France, Sodiaal- the leading dairy cooperative of France, Groupe Auchan, one of the leading retail chains in France, Axreal, the topmost grain co-operative of France, Lesaffre, a yeast processor, Mandar, producer of Herbs, Rouquette- leader in starch producer, Monin- leader in syrups. The Minister also met companies from other countries which are actively looking at India, as an investment destination, that include: Gordon Food Service (USA), Friesland Campina (Netherlands), the Colryut Group (Belgium).
