What Agribusiness Data Can and Can't Tell You

    By Marjorie Valin

    Published Aug 2, 2021

In agribusiness, big data means collecting everything. The temperature of the air as you plant, the moisture of the kernel as you harvest, the exact coordinate of each weed you find; it all gets absorbed into the digital cloud, analyzed, and processed. The end result is that we know what seeds grow the best in different conditions, statistically speaking... Sure, the corn hybrid ‘SKY-3122’ may rate the best in some parts of the country, but does that mean it’s best for your customers’ farms? The all-time favorite food across the US may be a good old cheeseburger fresh off the grill, but try to make everyone eat one and you’ll end up with a lot of unhappy vegetarians... With drones taking flight, we can target individual plants for pesticide applications...

From Industrial Pesticides to Integrated Pest Management: A New Trend in Vineyard Practices

    By Thomas Grandperrin

    Updated Dec 14, 2020

This article was initially published on The Wine Industry Advisor as part of a series on biological control and Integrated Pest Management written by UAV-IQ Precision Agriculture. Grape growers are facing increased threats from invasive insect pests. The issue with those non-native species is that there are often no naturally occurring enemies capable of controlling them and new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) protocols might take years to be developed, forcing growers to rely on broad-spectrum insecticides until more ecologically friendly alternatives are available. A notable example of an invasive pest affecting California vineyards is the vine mealybug, which is a major pest of grape vines not only because of the damage they can cause to the fruit but also for the viruses they transmit, such as the grape leafroll-associated virus... ”Do you have experience with the implementation of augmented biological control or conservation techniques to manage invasive pests in vineyards? Reach out to us, we’d love to hear your story and write about it!UAV-IQ is helping organic and conventional growers implement biocontrol in an efficient and cost-effective manner by using drones to release beneficial insects exactly when and where they’re needed to suppress pests...

What would you recommend for planting in a food plot for deer?

Pine Forest, so the soil is probably acidic. Located in North-East corner of Ohio. We are going to grind out the stumps, disc the soil, broadcast the seed and harrow it to finish.

  • Drones in Agriculture: Current and future legal status in Germany, the EU, the USA and Japan

Authors: Matthias Reger, Josef Bauerdick, Heinz Bernhardt

    Journal Title: Landtechnik

    ISSN: 0023-8082 (Online)

Publisher: Kuratorium für Technik und Bauwesen in der Landwirtschaft e. V.

Agriculture promises diverse and attractive uses for drones. However, farmers and service providers are often unaware of the legal situation in their new traffic space - “air”. What restrictions arise from current law and thus possibly block usage scenarios? What developments are to be expected from a legal perspective and which opportunities/risks may emerge in the future? The legal regulations in Germany, the EU, the USA and Japan are considered. Starting from the status quo of agricultural drone use, international legislation will be compared and an outlook on the future role of drones in agriculture will be presented.
