    Published Nov 7, 2020

Commercial Truck Loans & Financing RatesWhether you need to purchase a single truck or an entire fleet, you will need to find the right commercial truck finance options to fulfill your specific needs. Most business owners will not pay for these vehicles with cash out of pocket, so they will need to apply for loans for commercial trucks. Financing a commercial truck is similar to applying for a regular truck loan in many cases, but there are some key differences that you should be aware of before you contact finance companies to get started with an application. Understanding Different Commercial Truck Finance OptionsIt is important to note that not all commercial truck finance companies offer the same types of loans and that there are different types of loan programs available for different types of work vehicles. Retirement Tax Planning for Farmers

    By Tyler Davis

    Published Mar 15, 2020

The decision to retire is often met with either enthusiasm or fear. Some farmers are counting down the days until retirement, and others are scared to retire because they aren’t sure what they will do without work. Many farmers who have worked so hard for decades have not developed any hobbies outside of farming. The decision to retire is often one of uncertainty... The first question that farmers must answer is, What do I want to do in retirement? What type of lifestyle does the farmer want to live? Do they want to continue to live modestly and in a rural area, or are they ready to cash in on a lifetime of hard work, move to the beach, and go fishing every day? Having a solid answer to this question is a pre-requisite to evaluating the financial and tax issues that follow...

  • Call for Proposals: Sustainable agriculture, Sustainable fishing, Biodiversity conservation, Sustainable Technologies

The Fondation Ensemble is seeking proposals from eligible organisations for its Programme Fund.

    Focus Sectors
Sustainable agriculture: In this focus sector, the Foundation aims to participate in addressing the environmental, social and economic challenges involved in a sustainable agriculture that focuses on the needs of the world’s poorest populations. The projects fund are in areas where the environment is most degraded or under greatest threat, and where local populations are most at risk.
Sustainable fishing: In this focus sector, the Foundation funds sustainable fishing projects that closely link protection of fish stocks and conservation of ecosystems with protection of marine species and the well-being of local populations. The actions undertaken help the beneficiary families and future generations to ensure their own food security and to find new local income-generating activities.
Biodiversity conservation: In this focus sector, the Foundation funds terrestrial and marine biodiversity conservation projects (fauna and flora) that bring sustainable social, economic and environmental benefits, particularly for the poorest communities and that contribute to protecting threatened species.
Sustainable Technologies: In this focus sector, the Foundation provides particular support for the development of innovative technologies that the very poor can afford, and which improve their access to energy, to decent living conditions and to more environmentally-friendly means of production. Innovative technologies based on a sustainable development model can generate microenterprises within communities.

The project activities are undertaken in one of the Foundation’s six focus countries: Ecuador, Peru, Mozambique, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

Advances in Aquaculture Engineering in the Top 4 Trends Impacting the Aquaculture Market in China

The Chinese government's support to the aquaculture industry has been fueling its growth. The government is investing in the industry by building fishing ports, integrating and modernizing fishing logistics services, and developing offshore fishing. Furthermore, the government has been developing policies to promote robust aquaculture production by applying multi-technology systems and increase species diversification, like clams, oysters, and mussels.

African Water Facility: Boosting Hydropower and Irrigation in Tanzania

Tanzania is expected to benefit from a boost in hydropower generation and irrigation development thanks to a new study financed by the African Water Facility (AWF). This €2-million grant will help the government of Tanzania launch the pre-feasibility study of a multipurpose dam, irrigation and hydropower project in Kikonge (southwest).

A comprehensive approach. The study will cover the irrigation scheme, agro-business development, the dam and its reservoir and the associated hydropower plant and the high voltage transmission line. In addition, this study will also encompass water supply to local communities, local electricity supply through a mini hydro-power plant, fishing activities, tourism development and other uses of water for activities in the reservoir area (navigation, transport and water for mining).

A huge increase in hydropower generation. When completed, the 300-MW multipurpose dam, which is the main outcome of the studies, will result in a 53% increase of the country’s hydropower capacity. With an annual hydropower generation of 1,300 GWh by 2025, the dam will address Tanzania’s long-standing shortage of power supply. The country’s hydropower plants of the run-of-the-river type are highly vulnerable to seasonal variations and drastic variations of water availability as a consequence of climate change. In October 2015, most of the hydropower plants, representing 35% of the country total generating capacity, had been switched off due to the low water levels following an extended period without rain. With its storage reservoir of 6 billion m3 capacity, the dam will allow a stable supply of energy throughout the year.

Enabling The Smart Agriculture Revolution - The Future of Farming through the IoT Perspective

    Publisher: Beecham Research

Smart Farming is not just for large farms and research centres, but is starting to impact small and medium-sized farms. The farming industry is very receptive to technical innovation and is already embracing the IoT, using information from sensors, machinery and weather stations. It is the ability to capture, harness and analyse vast amounts of data to take informed decisions that is set to revolutionise the agricultural sector and is starting to deliver tangible benefits and measureable ROI (return on investment) for farms of all types and sizes.

While the primary driver behind smart technology is usually to reduce costs, time and wastage, smart farming has also been proven to benefit other areas such as safety and welfare, health, nutrition and sustainability.

The number of applications for smart farming is also growing rapidly, including: yield measurement and quota systems, plant and livestock disease monitoring, remote machine control and diagnostics, greenhouse management, virtual fencing and livestock biology monitoring. And for areas such as high value crop and precision livestock farming, smart fishing and aquaculture, smart technology is helping to increase production efficiencies and generate higher profit margins.
