  • How international money wants to invest in American Farms.

    By Robert Morgan

    Published Jun 12, 2018

MERCOSUR, or “ The Common Market of the Southern Cone” was established in March of 1990 by the Treaty of Asuncion and was implemented to create a Common Agricultural trade export import market by its now four signatories ( Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia) Venezuela is no longer part of the BLOC and Bolivia has a rather divided influence in MERCOSUR’S role. It has succeeded its predecessor, LAFTA ( Latin American Free Trade Association) in both economic integration as well as unlimited agricultural capital funding and has evolved into a powerful international influence in trade, agriculture, finance, exports, imports, and tariffs with many allies of which desire and inherently depend on its scalability including the United Arab Emirates, The European Union and more recently The United States of America. Brazil and Argentina are the largest Member countries, in territory and population in South America and each have large as well as highly developed consumer markets. Argentina is rich in Natural Resources and has a robust Export Oriented Agricultural Sector... The MERCOSUR is a powerful dominant force in international global markets and originally began with its Members;Bolivia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina as direct Member Countries, in South America, however it is rapidly gaining momentum by its cooperative Associate Member Countries in Central America and its international prowess relies on its ability to cooperate confidential public private initiative agreements with cooperating countries desiring to do corporate business attached with attractive concessions by partnering with MERCOSUR for the sake of obtaining finance, capital, agricultural export or import, natural resources and as an exchange for favor...

    Understanding Agrilend and the MERCOSUR

    By Robert Morgan

    Published Jun 17, 2018

The MERCOSUR is a powerful dominant force in international global markets and originally began with its Members;Bolivia, Venezuela, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina as direct Member Countries, in South America, however it is rapidly gaining momentum by its cooperative Associate Member Countries in Central America and its international prowess relies on its ability to cooperate confidential public private initiative agreements with cooperating countries desiring to do corporate business attached with attractive concensions by partnering with MERCOSUR for the sake of obtaining finance, capital, agricultural export or import, natural resources and as an exchange for favor. It is however important to distinguish its Members current state and its Associate Members current state... From 1609 until 1821, most of the territory within Central America—except for the lands that would become Belize and Panama—was governed by the Viceroyalty of New Spain from Mexico City as the Captaincy General of Guatemala... It includes twelve sovereign states (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Perú, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela), a part of France (French Guiana), and a non-sovereign area (the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory though this is disputed by Argentina)... They include The Council of The Common Market ( “ Council”) the Common Market Group ( “ The Group”) the MERCOSUR Commerce Commission ( “ MCC”), the Joint Parliament Commision, the Economic and Social Consultative Forum ( “ Forum”), the Administrative Secretariat ( “ Secretariat”), the Permanent Appellate Tribunal ( “ the Tribunal”) and the Committee of Permanent Representatives ( “ CPR”) The Plan of Agrilend in 2018-2019 is to provide unlimited capital to The United States Agricultural Industry as well as expanding its American brand to the Latin American Markets through ts distribution and prowess through MERCOSUR by its Member Countries or Associate Member Countries...

    By Jenny Hoo

    Published Sep 13, 2019

Pineapple pineapple cultivation Of late, the talk of the town seems to be revolving around the planting of MD2 pineapple. The questions is, why is this MD2 pineapple so popular?Pineapple is known to contain highest amount of vitamin C among all various types of fruits. It also contains a fair amount of magnesium, calcium, potassium and iron and develops a bromelin, of which is a type of enzyme. First started back in 1961, a hybrid variety namely “73-114”, developed by Pineapple Research Institude (PRI) in Hawaii was found to be extraordinary and was taken to Costa Rica for its first trial industrial planting... Due to the demand surge, lately Malaysia is also aggressively promoting the plantation of MD2 pineapple and DSTE Capital Limited is on the pace to be the largest MD2 pineapple planter in Malaysia, serving the rising demand from China and other countries...

1031 Exchanges and Farm Land: 5 Things that Landowners Need to Know

    By Tyler Davis

    Published Aug 2, 2019

A 1031 Exchange is a tax-deferred swap program in which farmers and others in the agriculture industry can participate. Farmland, vacant land, and certain agriculture assets are considered real estate assets under the Internal Revenue Code. As much, farmers and others are able to utilize Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 1031 in order to defer tax upon the disposition of farmland and acquisition of a “like-kind” piece of property... IRC Section 1031 allows a taxpayer to defer (not avoid) capital gains taxes realized upon the disposition of a property if the taxpayer replaces the property with a “like-kind” asset of equal or higher value... In order for the taxpayer to fully defer capital gains tax, they need to purchase an asset of equal or higher value...

Ten Ways to Increase Your Farm's Profits This Year

    By AgFuse Exclusive Content

    Updated Dec 30, 2019

Part 9: Focus on Efficiency Over Growth Farming is a capital-intensive industry. It takes a lot of capital and machinery to produce a crop... Often, that approach does grow their profits, but it also increases the farmers’ capital expenditures. Furthermore, if this new growth isn’t funded with current working capital, then the cost of capital can negate the profit seen from pure growth... Why Efficiency Matters More Than Size In most cases, gains in efficiency cost little to nothing compared to the increased capital requirements to add more land...

Oh deer! Deer damage and what farmers can do about it

    By John Moody

    Published May 21, 2018

It is that time of year again, at least in my parts. As things go from the tunnel to the field, all our friendly little four legged foes start to to make dinner plans… and breakfast plans. Some are making midnight snack plans as well. Raccoons, rabbits, and the worst of all in our area - deer... Also, the use of dogs isn’t completely uncharted territory...

The Best Business Entity Structure for Farms

    By Tyler Davis

    Updated Jun 20, 2020

One of the most common questions I receive as a tax professional is “What type of business entity should I choose?” Most new business owners are overwhelmed at this decision and do not fully understand the differences between types of entities. This article will explain rules, filing requirements, and benefits of the main type of business entities: sole proprietorship, LLC, Partnership, S-Corporation, and C-Corporation. Each decision is dependent upon the facts & circumstances of the owner(s), but a thorough understanding of each business type is critical in making the correct entity decision. Sole Proprietorships:The easiest, quickest type of entity to set up is a sole proprietorship... Because corporations are separate people, they have multiple ways to raise capital...

How to Create a Low-Input, High-Revenue System with Wide-Row Intercropping

    By Laura Barrera

    Published Dec 9, 2019

In Gaston, Ind... Inspired by the results he saw from interplanting and using low populations in the landscape business he started prior to farming full-time, his goal is to capitalize on sunshine, wheat and hog manure — annually Mauck has about 5 million gallons from his 25,000 finishing hogs operation... Mauck recommends using an early maturing hybrid so you can get the wheat in earlier and allow it to capitalize on tillers... You’ll also likely have to plant later, which means you’re depending more on July and August rains instead of capitalizing on the moisture seen in early spring... He wants to see other farmers get out of their comfort zones and learn how to capitalize on the variables they have...

How To Value a Farm Agricultural Business

    By Robert Morgan

    Published Jun 14, 2018

Business valuations are frequently performed when one company acquires another company, when a company is targeted for an acquisition, when a company’s capital structure is reorganized, when a company splits up, or when a company enters bankruptcy in liquidation or reorganization. The transactions may include entire or partial acquisitions, divestitures, liquidation, or recapitalization. Mergers will generally require both companies to be valued, while an acquisition may require only a single valuation... The reasoning implicit in The Agrilend model is the typical business valuation of an ongoing concern will provide a methodology for valuing its monetary efficiency by the market, asset, and income approach, however when dealing with established food manufacturing brands there is a different element to be considered to determine which constitutes its inherent customer base and brand positioning and therefore the multiple the target company can be purchased at or resold to a secondary private equity group, lender, or investor with an emphasis proportionally irrespective of discounted cash flows, capitalization rate, risk free rate, debt capital structure, capital asset pricing method, equity risk premium or company specific risk premium. In food manufacturing established brands with distribution in retail, it is still necessary to gauge the capital structure to determine the weighted average cost of capital to make a decision for a minority or majority purchase, however Agrilend places an emphasis on this intangible value with greater weight...
