Urban gardens are open-air or indoor spaces intended for the cultivation of vegetables, fruits, legumes, aromatic plants or medicinal herbs, among other varieties, and in general for self-consumption. It is a good way to provide a green space to homes that are located in the center of cities or near the periphery. Having your own urban garden has many benefits such as connecting with nature, helping you have a healthy diet and reducing stress... And how do you know what you should plant? Let's start with crops that do not require much care... Although we could write an entire book on irrigation in orchards to start with, I can restart you to be careful not to overwater...

But a lot of the pests damaging our crops are actually native to our regions and already have local natural enemies... Inoculative augmentation is when a release of beneficial is made on the crops once during the season and the control is ensured for the rest of the season by their offsprings... Numerous pests are successfully controlled within fields growing a wide variety of crops around the world. Crop examples include permanent crops such as vineyards, citrus and apple orchards as well as annual crops such as strawberry, cannabis, and corn... We will discover that while augmentative biological control was historically known mainly for greenhouse vegetable and floriculture production, these new technics open new opportunities for outdoor crops such as trees, orchards, vineyards, etc...

Are CSAs still a viable business model for small farms? In the early 2000s, we hit a heyday for local farm and foods. Works by numerous authors created a resurgence in interest among consumers for “food with a face” - locally grown, seasonal, direct from the farm. What had been a mostly niche movement starting the 1980s that had limited appeal into the 90s took off in the 2000s... Share sizes are also far more flexible, and many farms now offer shares that focus on particular foods, crops, or other products they produce... A vegetable farm will partner with a pastured meat operation, a honey farmer, and an orchard and maple syrup operation to both create a longer CSA season and greater value for their members...
