    Cetane versus octane

BohaczEven deep within farm country where compression ignition engines are dominant, little to no conversation is ever heard about a fuel’s cetane rating. In contrast, even the most disconnected motorist is familiar with the term octane. A very common misconception is that the terms refer to almost the same aspect of the respective fuel. Million Dollar Dirt

    By Amanda Allworth

    Published Jul 10, 2018

Dirt. It’s arguably a farmer’s most valuable natural resource. But what makes some soils more productive than others? That’s a complicated question to answer, but we do know that the healthiest soils share some common characteristics. While some of these are difficult to change, there are management practices you can employ to improve soil quality... Research conducted by the National Association of Conservation Districts and Datu Research found that using cover crops and/or no-till can result in an economic return of over $100 per acre as a result of less fertilizer and erosion repair costs and higher yields...

Lifeasible, a world leading biotechnology company specialized in agricultural science, now offers plant genetic modification by CRISPR/CAS9 to provided engineered plants with enhanced properties. CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing is a technique for rapid editing of genomic DNA with very high efficiency and specificity, and its mechanism is the same as that used by prokaryotes to defend against viral or other foreign DNA invasion. Cas9 is an RNA-guided DNA endonuclease associated with CRISPR... DSBs are repaired by NHEJ (non-homologous end joining) or HDR (homology-directed repair), allowing nucleotide insertion, deletion, substitution or site-specific mutation in the broken region... Single and multiple genes knock-down, knock-out or knock-in, site-specific mutation even single nucleotide mutation according to alternative DNA repair pathways are available at Lifeasible...

Commercial Truck Loans & Financing RatesWhether you need to purchase a single truck or an entire fleet, you will need to find the right commercial truck finance options to fulfill your specific needs. Most business owners will not pay for these vehicles with cash out of pocket, so they will need to apply for loans for commercial trucks. Understanding Different Commercial Truck Finance OptionsIt is important to note that not all commercial truck finance companies offer the same types of loans and that there are different types of loan programs available for different types of work vehicles... Farmer Focus - Clive Bailye - Going Trailed

    By Direct Driller Magazine

    Published Mar 25, 2019

18 years ago, we bought our first self-propelled sprayer and it revolutionized access to land, it was light and well balanced and made fertilizer and crop protection applications easy. Our timeliness and the ruts we used to leave in tramlines all but disappeared. Back then If you had told me I would ever consider running a trailed sprayer on my farm again I would have thought you were mad... Each year of zerotill these areas seemed to get smaller, the temptation to subsoil them was resisted in favor of a light late spring surface cultivation and cover crop mix established on any such bare patch or sticky headland, nothing repairs structure better than roots and the soil biology that surrounds them and it seems that if you can create a good natural structure it can go some way to making up for the failings of an ageing 1960’s drainage scheme... From a financial point of view the savings from the change are significant and fit in well with the ethos behind our farming system of keeping things as simple, minimal and as few engines (which equals potential repair bills!) on the farm as possible...

Guide to Choosing Business Equipment Loans

    By Future Loans

    Published Nov 2, 2020

What is a business equipment loan?A business equipment loan, or equipment financing, provides businesses with the funding they need to upgrade or repair the equipment they use for daily business functions. Qualifying equipment includes appliances, vehicles and electronics, such as computers. An equipment loan agreement usually cannot be used for payroll, real estate, debt servicing or other expenses. Following loan approval and funds remittance to you bank accounts, you begin making payments on the loan, which includes the total cost of the equipment plus interest over a fixed period. Once you have repaid the term loan in full, you own the equipment...

Was starting to get a little worried about my mental health because its been just a tad stressful here in Oklahoma with the fertilizer shortage and trying to get equipment ready for hay season. Sooooo today I did something to give my mind a break and did something fun. I love farming but I love racing even more, so today me and the guy that helps us on the farm spent the day moving both cars around. The orange car is my first race car and hasnt been out of the barn since the fall of 2015 and the black car is our current actual race car. It was damaged in a crash spring of 19 and has been sitting ever since so today we started the repair process and I can promise you it did my mind and just general being a ton of good.

Absolutely great news for farmers! Around 2017 I learned that most of the tractor dealerships only make about 3% markup on their product, relying on back of house maintenance for majority of their profit. I had a (omit brand) off road vehicle I used for wood lot maintenance (I loved that machine) that broke a CV joint. The dealer told me they would cut me a good price and even include pickup and delivery (time is money). I ensured they knew that if I wasn't happy with their quote I had the means to pick it up and bring it home. They quoted a 'manufacturer identified' 4 hour job just for the labor alone. It was brought home and the repair completed in one hour, at a 1/3 of the manufacturer OEM parts cost as well; saved about $500. Mechanical skills cut overhead costs, and this win will help farmers.
