    Technology, Innovation needed to Drive Agricultural Revolution in Africa

    The low levels of mechanization on the continent, as well as poor utilization of modern inputs and other forms of agriculture technology have inhibited growth of agriculture, the Chief Economist said. Statistics indicate that many countries have fewer than 20,000 tractors in use per 100 square kilometres of land. Similarly, there is limited adoption of modern inputs such as fertilizers, improved seeds, and agro-chemicals, with majority of countries using less than 80 kilograms of fertilizer per hectare of arable land.

    Korea shared lessons of how it revamped its agriculture sector using improved technology and innovation, coupled with mechanised farming. As a country which experienced rice shortage of up to 20 percent in the 1950s and early 1960s, and which relied on the United States for food aid in the 1950s, Korea’s new methods of transformation saw it turnaround its agriculture, significantly improving rice production.

    Technology across all the different "silos" of ag. For social ag connections & information think AgFuse. For equipment, land, consumables, etc., there has been and continues to be enormous resources poured into taking the technology to the next level. Ag tech is an exciting subject to follow.

    Technology keeps rice fertilizer nice

    Rehman has been testing a small tool called the Handheld GreenSeeker to gather data on the plants. The device is able to collect data without physically contacting the plants. It objectively measures how green the plant is (nitrogen is a key component of the molecule that makes plants green). The index then uses the “greenness” to determine how much nitrogen is in the rice.

    According to tripwire.com, the average ransomware payout in 2020 shot up to $312,493. and the highest paid was $30,000,000. So, for a number of reasons it makes sense that hackers would go after food supply chains 1) unprotected technology 2) food is essential to life... scary stuff.

    "Propane flame weeding offers a highly efficient and organic alternative to herbicides or tedious manual labor. According to field studies funded by the Propane Education and Research Council, flame weeding is up to 90% effective against weeds by using intense heat to rupture plant cells, causing the weeds to wither and die. Approved for certified organic farming operations, propane flame weeding also avoids the disruption of essential soil nutrients, which commonly occurs with cultivation and tillage weed control methods."
